J Congratulations to Prof. Jianbin XU and Prof Hon Ki TSANG as well as their research teams won the 2nd prize of the Natural Science Awards 2014 by the Ministry of Education, China.

 

J Congratulations to Dr. XU Ke who won the 2014 Hong Kong Institution of Science (HKIS) Young Scientist Award in the category of Engineering Science.

 

J Congratulations to CHENG Zhenzhou who has been selected for the Postgraduate Research Output Award 2013. The award is nominated annually by each Faculty to recognize research postgraduate students with commendable research achievements during their studies.

 

J Congratulations to Dr Cheng Zhenzhou who won 2013 top prize in Hong Kong Institution of Science (HKIS) young scientist award in the category of Engineering Science.

 

J Congratulations to Dr. Zhenzhou Cheng who has been selected to receive the Facultyˇ¦s outstanding PhD Thesis Award 2013. His thesis title is "Graphene-on-Silicon Suspended Membrane Planar Lightwave Circuits".

 

J Congratulations to Gordon Lei and Chen Xia who won the best paper (first and 2nd runner up respectively) prizes at the 10th IEEE Photonics Society HK Chapter Postgraduate Conference held on Saturday 28 November at HKUST.

 

J Congratulations!! Professor Charles K. Kao has been awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. He was the Head and Professor of our Department from 1970 to 1974 and is known as the "Father of Fibre optics".

J Congratulations to Gordon K. P. Lei. Gordon was awarded the IEEE Best Student Paper Award at the 14 th OptoElectronics and Communications Conference (OECC 2009) held at Hong Kong, July 13 - 17, 2009. The awarded paper was entitled: "Conversion of 40 Gb/s OTDM to 40 Gb/s WDM Channels with Extinction Ratio Enhancement by Pump-Modulated Four-Wave Mixing Using Time- and Wavelength-Interleaved Laser Pulses" by Gordon K. P. Lei and Chester Shu

 

J Congratulations to Dai Yong Heng Denver who won the Best Paper Award at the 9th IEEE LEOS (HK) Postgraduate Conference held on November 29, 2008 at the City University of Hong Kong. The awarded paper is entitled: "Polarization-insensitive delay-asymmetric nonlinear loop mirror for variable bit-rate DPSK demodulation" by Yongheng Dai, Mable P. Fok, and Chester Shu

 

J Congratulations to Alan Cheng Lap Kei. Alan received the Best Student Paper Award from the Asia Optical Fiber Communication and Optoelectronic Exhibition and Conference (AOE) held at Shanghai, Oct 30-Nov 2, 2008. The AOE is the largest conferences in fiber communications and optoelectronics in Asia. The awarded paper is entitled: "All-Optical Tunable Delay Line for Channel Selection in OTDM Demultiplexing," by Alan Cheng, Mable P. Fok, and Chester Shu.

 

J Congratulations to Gordon K. P. Lei. Gordon's paper has been shortlisted is "18-nm, 10-GHz Continuously Wavelength-Tunable Pulse Generation by Compensated Dispersion Tuning in a Mode-Locked SOA Ring Laser" by Gordon K. P. Lei, Mable P. Fok, and Chester Shu

J Congratulations to Fok Mei Po, Mable. Mable has been awarded a Special Merit in the HKIS Young Scientist Award Competition 2008.

J Lee Sim Heung, B. Eng. and M. Phil. graduate in the optoelectronics group, has been awarded a full scholarship to study towards a Ph.D degree in Photonics at the University of Cambridge, under the supervision of Prof. Ian White.

J Congratulations to Prof. Hon Tsang on being awarded the Research Excellence Award 2006-2007.

J Congratulations to Prof. Chester Shu and Dr. Mable Fok for getting their postdeadline paper accepted at OFC 2008. There were 117 postdeadline submissions and only 35 accepted.

J Mable, Fok Mei Po, has been awarded "First Prize" in the IEEE Hong Kong Section 2007 (PG) Student Paper Contest.

J Gordon, Lei Kin Pang has won the first runner-up best paper award at the 8th IEEE LEOS (Hong Kong) Postgraduate Conference held on December 8, 2007 at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University

J Kwok Chi Hang, Owen, has been admitted to the University of Cambridge in UK to continue Ph. D. study with full financial support.

J Kwok Chi Hang (Owen) has won the Best Student Paper Award from OECC conference in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, July 3-7, 2006. Awarded paper: C. H. Kwok and Chinlon Lin, "Multi-Wavelength Nonlinear Optical Loop Mirror with Suppressed Four-Wave Mixing Components," in Proc. OptoElectronics and Communications Conf. (OECC 2006), Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Paper 4D2-1, 2006.

J   Liu Yang has won the Best Student Paper Award from OECC conference in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, July 3-7, 2006. Awarded paper: Y. Liu, C. H. Kwok, C. W. Chow, P. S. Chan, H. K. Tsang, Chinlon Lin, "High Speed Gain Transient Compensation," in Proc. OptoElectronics and Communications Conf. (OECC 2006), Kaohsiung, Taiwan

J Prof. H.K Tsang is the recipient of the Young Researcher Award 2005 in Chinese University of Hong Kong (March 2006).

J Mable P. Fok received the Incubic/Milton Chang Student Travel Grants at CLEO, Optical Society of America, May 2006.

J Prof. Hon Tsang was invited to present "Helium Implantation into Silicon:Nonlinear and Linear Optoelectronic Applications," in IEEE LEOS Annual Meeting 2006 (Montreal 2006).

J Invited Talk: Prof. Hon Tsang was invited to present "Nonlinearities in silicon on insulator waveguides" in APOC (Shanghai, 2005).

J Prof. Hon Tsang was invited to present "Silicon-on-Insulator Optical Waveguides: Nonlinear Properties and Functional Elements,"  in IEEE LEOS Annual Meeting 2005, (Sydney 2005)

J Professor Chester Shu was appointed by OSA to serve as a Topical Editor of Optics Letters in the area of Optical Fiber Communications, June 2005.

J Mable P. Fok received the Best Presentation Award at the 6th IEEE LEOS (Hong Kong) Postgraduate Conference, December 2005.

J Owen Kwok won the 2nd runner up best paper award at 6th IEEE LEOS (Hong Kong) postgraduate conference held at Hong Kong University on 3rd December 2005.

J Liu Yang was awarded the third best student paper prize from LEOS annual meeting in Sydney. The other winners were from Stanford (1st), U. of Melbourne (2nd), CUHK (3rd), U. Sydney (4th) and U. of Kyoto (5th).

J Mable P. Fok received the 2005 IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society Graduate Student Fellowship.

J S. H. Lee received the Best Student Paper Award at CLEO/Pacific Rim, July 11-15, 2005, Tokyo, Japan.

J Mable P. Fok received the 2005 IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society student travel grant.

J Mable P. Fok received the Outstanding Paper Award in the 2005 International Symposium on Technology Fusion of Optoelectronics and communications (STFOC'05), May 18-22, 2005, Taipei, Taiwan.
